The long-awaited sequel to a Sega Saturn Shin Megami Tensei game, Soul Hackers 2 mixes demons, cyberpunk and the look of Persona games.

the Shin Megami Tensei franchise is expanding with the upcoming release of Soul Hackers 2. A sequel to a Sega Saturn spin-off series from the biggest franchise, Soul Hackers 2 continues the combination of demonic negotiations and cyberpunk aesthetic of its predecessor. In fact, the images for the new game seem to come out of both Character and the title of Atlus, Katherine.

Released later this year, fans are eagerly awaiting Soul Hackers 2, especially since his announcement was such a surprise. Although some of its plot elements are still under wraps, much of what is known about the gameplay is sure to have Megami Tensei enthusiasts ready to do magic invocations themselves. Here’s what players need to know about the upcoming sequel.

Soul Hackers 2 Trailer

Soul Hackers 2 was announced with a trailer on February 21, surprising many who didn’t see it coming. The trailer shows how the game takes advantage of its neon aesthetic, making it a departure from the typical Megami Tensei Games. Avoiding the usual dark and gritty atmosphere for something akin to the Character series, the look and tone of Soul Hackers 2 seems to be a far cry from the grungy feel of the original Shin Megami Tensei: Summoner of the Devil. Gameplay still seems to involve dealing with demons, however, retaining the feel of an M-rated version of Pokemon.

Featuring many characters, including the laser-gunned Ringo, gameplay snippets are shown in the trailer. This includes the turn-based combat system, which again combines elements of the Character titles with the Main Series Press Turn system. Characters are also seen traversing areas outside of battle, with the sprawling cities feeling very well lit.

What is Soul Hackers 2 about?

Soul Hackers 2The plot of does not appear to be related to previous entries in the Devil Summoner sub-series, though there will likely be plenty of Easter eggs and tributes. Set in modern times, the story involves a war between devil summoning clans known as the Phantom Society and Yagatarasu. Ringo and Fig, two beings born from the information highway, help the Devil Summoners.

Unfortunately for them, some of the people they were responsible for protecting are already dead. Since their lives were essential to prevent a horrible incident from happening, this poses a problem. Ringo, a rare female protagonist in the series, has the power to revive others, so her actions may be the only chance to avert the apocalypse.

News to know about Soul Hackers 2

The staff behind Soul Hackers 2 are experienced veterans of the Shin Megami Tensei series, with one of the game’s directors, Eiji Ishida, having already directed Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. Art and music direction is handled by outsiders, however, with Monaca working on the music while manga artist, Shirow Miwa, was the main character designer. This explains the strong anime and J-Pop influences on Soul Hackers 2as Monaca had already worked on many anime soundtracks.

Mitsuru Hirata, the game’s other director, had noted the popularity Devil Summoner was like a spin-off series, but was hesitant to return to it due to the time since the original game was released. Thus, it was decided to make the oft-requested follow-up to the subgroup’s second game, The Soul Pirates. It had at least been ported to the Nintendo 3DS not too long ago.

When will Soul Hackers 2 be released?

Although it was only recently announced, fans won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on it. Soul Hackers 2. The game is slated for an August 25 release in Japan, with the game heading overseas the following day. This Japanese release will have quite a few extras commemorating the original game’s release in Japan 25 years ago. Similarly, there will also be crossover DLC for the game based on personas 5, featuring characters wearing the Phantom Thieves Joker, Skull, Panther, and Crow costumes. They will also be able to fight to the rhythm of the personas 5 boss theme, “Keeper of Lust”.

Atlus and its western division will self-publish the game in Japan and America, with parent company Sega doing it in Europe. Soul Hackers 2 will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Sony fans will be able to upgrade their PS4 version of the game to the PS5 for free, allowing them to hack souls in the current generation of consoles.
