Maha Co by Yung Raja looking north
Most of us know Yung Raja for his musical contributions to the Singaporean scene, but he has recently branched out into areas other than music. MahaCo is her first foray into the food industry, with thosai fusion tacos inspired by her mother.
With his business partner Quan Ong, owner of Gorilla Press Cothey opened Maha Co’s doors to the public earlier this year in February 2022, aiming to create fusion cuisine that stays true to its Indian heritage. What they found: thosai tacos, using her mother’s homemade thosai recipe.
From now on, there are six thosai flavors to choose from, with a new breakfast quesadilla already in the works. the Guacamole with salsa ($5.90+)includes the beloved creamy avocado dip, plus refreshing diced tomatoes and red onions.
Each taco thosai also comes with tortilla chips and vegetable curry, which customers can dip their taco thosai in for a little treat.
For something a little more filling, opt for their Cucumber Yogurt Crispy Chicken ($6.50+). As the name suggests, this taco thosai features pieces of crispy chicken and crispy diced cucumber in a concoction of Greek yogurt.
Another of their most popular thosai tacos is the Crispy Pork with Mexican Coleslaw ($7.50+). Pork belly and crackling skin come with extra cabbage that gives every bite a refreshing crunch. The thicker-than-usual savory slice of pork might seem like too much for some, so the refreshing purple cabbage cuts through that, creating a balanced yet delicious blend of flavors.
Besides thosai tacos, Maha Co also offers a number of side dishes, such as a Chicken Curry Nachos ($11.90+). Loaded with rich, thick curry and chunks of chicken, this dish is the epitome of Mexican-Indian pairing.
As for beverages, Maha Co offers non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. If you are one of those who appreciates the spiciness of chai, you will certainly appreciate the Chai Raja Masala ($3.20+)available hot or iced.
Maha Co seeks to emphasize local craft beers, so you’ll be able to find local brands such as Brewlander and Lion’s Brewery here from $9.90+.
This comes with a “buy 2 get 1 free” offer on all craft beers, which you can enjoy with their Taco Tuesday “buy 1 get 1 free” offer on all craft beers. thosai tacos.
The cafe’s interior is decorated with colorful Mexican and Bollywood posters that Yung Raja himself has plastered on the walls. Accompanied by rhythmic hip-hop and rap beats, Maha Co is bursting with life and personality.
