Pop Warner moves to Hanapepe this Saturday

KAPA’A – After the successful launch of the Kaua’i Pop Warner Football League flag and encouraging soccer matches on Saturday at the newly refurbished stadium of the Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex, the league is moving its fixture list to Hanapepe on Saturday .

Seven matches are scheduled from 7:30 am when the Kekaha and Hanapepe associations share the hosting duties at the Hanapepe stadium.

Kekaha will host the Lihu’e association in the morning series which begins with the opening of the 12 and under division followed by the match of the 14 and under division starting at 9:30 am. Koloa Bobcats, staying strong against Kapa’a in new stadium, ends host Kekaha segment starting at 11:30 am

Hanapepe hosts the afternoon series with four games starting with the Cubs taking the field against Koloa starting at 12:30 p.m.

The Kapa’a Eagles cross the hill when his Bobcats face the Colts from 3:30 p.m., and end the day when his Eagles 12 and under take on Kekaha from 3:30 p.m.

These are the scheduled matches, subject to change based on COVID-19 rankings and testing. All matches are played under COVID-19 guidelines which include spectators who must undergo temperature checks and disinfect their hands before entering the stadium.

Spectators are limited to the immediate family of the team, not practicing large gatherings and social distancing. Families must leave the stadium once the competition is over.

There is also no food stand available, and spectators bringing snacks and drinks to enjoy during the match are encouraged and asked to empty their opala when they leave.

Finally, due to the endangered seabird flight season which began on September 15, all games are limited to daylight hours only.
