So who is Ladybeard?

Since the advent of Babymetal has broken the doors to a whole new world of kawaii, pop-idol metal has become somewhat mainstream.

But like their pro wrestling-clad costume, death metal-style singer Ladybeard (yes – that’s a lot) explained to triple j’s The Racket earlier this week, it’s never looked like this before.

“I’m a tall, bearded Australian, in a dress, with pigtails in my hair, and I’m in a kawaii metal band with two adorable Japanese girls (KITOMI and SUZU).”

“I’m in the middle, and I’m dancing and SCREAM, and these adorable young Japanese women are on either side of me, dancing and singing. If you imagine Babymetal, but the girl in the middle, instead of being the girl in the middle, is a giant bearded Australian who dances and screams – that’s kind of what you’re looking at. ”

“It’s Babybeard. It’s babies plus Ladybeard. It’s the formula, it makes very, very logical!”

Born in Adelaide as Richard Margarey, Ladybeard first moved to Hong Kong in 2006 to begin a career as a martial arts stuntman in films. He then moved to Tokyo in 2013 and was one of the most iconic professional wrestlers in Asia since.

With her unique approach led by delicate pigtails and brutal vocals, it’s evident that Ladybeard has garnered significant cult following as a performer and online presence since her in-ring and stage debut.

“It’s a less traveled path, it’s a path that few people have walked before me, if any. I’m pretty sure there isn’t.

Babybeard, on a mission to keep the vibes positive and the horns held high. A second single ‘Piennizeris also streaming now, with many more to come.
