Macklemore teases collaboration with Tones And I – Billboard

Macklemore’s longtime collaboration with Tones And I is apparently in the box, and now we know what it looks like.

It is, of course, Toni Watson, better known as Tones And I, who can be heard singing “I’m on fire” and fleshing out the song with the empowering line “You can’t take my voice from me.

Tones teased the upcoming release last September with an Instagram post of the couple posing in the studio, and gave the update in January during an interview with triple j.

“This year I could finally release a song with my favorite artist – Macklemore,” Tones explained.

“It’s been a long time since he first surprised me in Seattle in 2019,” she continued. “He wanted me to record vocals on a track we’re doing together, so I had to do it in person.”

There’s no word yet on a release date, although in this interview earlier in the year, Tones confessed, “I’ve already started this next album which comes out in August; It’s very different.”

Tones’ second album is the sequel to Welcome to the mental hospitalwhich reached No. 1 in Australia after its release in July 2021, and featured its follow-up hit “Fly Away”, which peaked at No. 11 in the UK
