Kangnam shared a disturbing story about his life before becoming a K-pop idol.
Prior to MIB’s debut, Kangnam had already established his empire when he released his single say my name. The Japanese-Korean singer, real name Yasuo Namekawa, later debuted in the hip-hop group.
Although he didn’t start his career until he flew to South Korea after studying in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kangnam reportedly had a bad experience in Japan while in college.

Kangnam Details Burglary in Japan Home
Kangnam uploaded a new video to his YouTube channel, which featured the city he lived in when he was still in Japan. The Japanese-Korean singer has revealed that their house was broken into when he was in middle school, and the burglar who committed the crime.
“My parents were so freaked out, because all the money in the house was gone. I really wanted to catch the burglar, so I started investigating. About a month passed, and my friend told me something which I found very suspicious,” he said.
He revealed that one of his classmates told him he wanted to go on a trip with him and gave him around $68 for the tour. However, Kangnam found it suspicious as the amount was too large to be given easily to anyone.

Because of this, he asked his friends for help in solving the case.
They discovered that the burglar who broke into their house was this classmate after they stole his key while he was changing for gym class.
What was more surprising was that the classmate’s father was a policeman. After the revelation, his classmate was allegedly beaten in front of him by his own father.
Kangnam officially becomes Korean
Apart from his burglary story, Kangnam has gone viral because of his recent naturalization test.
After failing the first step of the process to become a South Korean citizen, he applied again and passed the written exam. He finally had his last interview in February and officially became Korean.
“I can go to the dong [neighborhood] office and change my name, get insurance and create a resident registration card. I have many options for my name. I could just leave it as “Kang Nam”, or take my mother’s last name and go with “Kwon Kang Nam”, or take my wife’s last name as “Lee Kang Nam”, or I could change completely the name ‘Kangnam,'” he continued.
Kangnam married former speed skater Lee Sang Hwa in August 2019.
