Covid in K-pop: Pentagon’s Jinho, Oh My Girl’s Jessi, Lee Mi-joo and Hyojung fall ill

It looks like Covid-19 isn’t giving K-pop fans a day’s rest as four more idols have tested positive for the new virus. For the single day of February 23, four idols declared having tested positive for Covid-19 and thus stopped all their activities for the days to come. The pandemic initially got off to a slow start in the genre with very few idols testing positive, but now it looks like Covid-19 has affected every K-pop group, from BTS to Blackpink or Ateez to ITZY.

Rapper Jessi and former Lovelyz member Lee Mi-joo are the two new K-pop idols who said they tested positive for Covid-19 among other cast members of the variety show” The Sixth Sense 3″. Not only these two, but earlier today, Pentagon’s Jinho, as well as Oh My Girl’s Hyojung, also reported testing positive for the virus after their PCR tests were released.

Jessi and Lee Mi-joo test positive

The tvN variety show, “The Sixth Sense”, was currently filming its third season when many of the program’s cast and crew members said they tested positive for the virus. As the outbreak continues to escalate in K-pop, since February 23, rapper Jessi, as well as former Lovelyz member Lee Mi-joo, have both tested positive.

Initially, after actor Lee Sang-yeob reported contracting the virus, all cast members of “Sixth Sense 3” took their preventive PCR tests as they had only completed one program for the show. . Lee Mi-joo tested positive for the Covid infection and soon after, Jessi, who is also a cast member of the show, announced that she too had fallen ill.

While all cast members of “The Sixth Sense 3” are currently self-isolating under quarantine guidelines, the variety program that was originally scheduled to air on March 11 has now been postponed to March 18. This is done in order to secure a safe production environment as the production team and cast have reported numerous Covid-19 cases in quick succession over a short period of time.

Pentagon’s Jinho and Oh My Girl’s Hyojung also fall ill

Not only the two, but the day also started with reports from Cube Entertainment that Jinho, the oldest member of the Pentagon, tested positive for Covid-19 alongside Oh My Girl leader Hyojung. In their statement updating fans on Jinho’s health, Cube said that Jinho, who was going to appear on MBC’s music show, “Show Champion”, took a self-test for the virus, which came back positive. . After that, Jinho took a mandatory PCR test and he too tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, WM Entertainment, the label that manages Oh My Girl, said Hyojung, who was scheduled to appear on MBC’s “Dreaming Radio” show on February 23, took a Covid-19 self-test a day before the show. . The self-test came back positive, so Hyojung conducted the mandatory PCR test, which confirmed the virus infection. Following this, her bandmate Yubin reportedly replaced Hyojung on the MBC radio show.

Jinho and Hyojung’s sides announced that the two idols have completed two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and are currently in quarantine and self-isolating in accordance with health guidelines from quarantine officials.
