BTS’s Jung Kook Makes History Among K-Pop Solo Stars On Hot 100, Passing Teammate Suga

In this week’s Hot 100 chart, the highest-ranked debut comes from power couple Charlie Puth and Jung Kook. The two musicians collaborated on the track “Left And Right”, which enters the all-important ranking of the most consumed songs in the United States at No. 22. It is an impressive starting point (and a possible peak) for the piece, and he helps one of the artists attached to the cut to make history.

“Left And Right” is now Jung Kook’s highest charting hit, aside from his work with BTS, of course. In fact, not only is it his highest-performing track, but it ranks as one of the biggest hits among South Korean solo stars in Hot 100 history.

Jung Kook now claims the fourth-highest charting song in US history crediting a South Korean solo musician. Prior to this week, that slot was filled by fellow BTS singer Suga. The multi-talented entertainer joined the late rapper Juice WRLD on the track “Girl of My Dreams,” which was featured on his latest posthumous album. Fight the demons, released in late 2021. This cut debuted and peaked at No. 29 less than a year ago. Now, it’s the fifth-highest charting song by a solo musician from South Korea, pushed down the all-time chart by new Jung Kook.

Jung Kook and Suga are behind several of Psy’s hit singles. The pioneering K-pop superstar continues to lay claim to the three highest-charting hits in US history, looking specifically at South Korean artists who are credited to them alone. He once climbed to No. 2 over a decade ago with the unstoppable “Gangnam Style.” A year after that track took the world by storm, he returned with “Gentleman,” which stopped at No. 5 on the Hot 100. He later landed another top 40 win with “Hangover” at the alongside Snoop Dogg, who shot at No. 26.

Of course, this ranking only takes into account South Korean solo artists. The list changes completely when the work of all South Korean musicians is included. BTS alone has scored half a dozen No. 1 hits on the Hot 100.

“Left And Right” is the third single from Puth’s third album, apparently titled Charlie, and expected in October. Since its debut, it instantly became the biggest Hot 100 win for the pop singer, as its No. 22 starting point easily beats the No. 27 lead cut top “Light Switch,” which was released in early 2022. Second promotional song “That’s Hilarious” failed to hit the chart, so the immediate success of “Left And Right” is certainly welcomed by Puth and his team.
