Brave Girls aim to become K-pop summer queen with new album – The Korea Times

Brave Girls, a girl group that caught the celebrity on the brink of disbandment, have said they want to become the new summer queen of the K-pop scene with their latest outing.

“We would like to become a band that people think about when summer comes,” the band said at a press conference on Thursday marking the release of their fifth EP, titled “Summer Queen.”

The five-track album, featuring Korean and English versions of the title track “Chi Mat Ba Ram”, is packed with tropical sounds and upbeat beats.

“Chi Mat Ba Ram” – a compound of the words “chima”, which means skirt in Korean, and “baram”, which means rustle or wind – tends to be used in a negative way, referring to ferocity in women, especially mothers who care for their children.

“At first we were confused when we heard about the title of the main track, but we understood the intention of our lead producer when he said he chose the word in hopes that Brave Girls would take it. storm the K-pop scene, ”said Minyoung, the group’s lead singer. .

The Tropical Summer Issue was written by Brave Brothers, one of K-pop’s most successful producers and the head of Brave Entertainment, who represents the group of four.

Until early this year, the band’s four members – Minyoung, Yujeong, Eunji and Yuna – were considering going their separate ways after their previous outings failed to gain public attention in a highly competitive industry where many many acts come and go quickly.

But things changed after a three-minute clip, showing the girl group performing their 2017 song “Rollin ‘” at various concerts for the Army, Marine Corps, and Air Force, became viral on YouTube.

In March, “Rollins'” belatedly swept the national music charts four years after its release.

“We didn’t have a job until three months ago. It would be a lie if we were to say that we don’t feel immense pressure from all the attention, but we put a lot of effort into this album, ”Yujeong said.

“It would be great if we could see an immediate response for our song this time around because we worked really hard,” Eunji said, adding that she almost broke down in tears when watching the music video for the new song for the first time. . “We feel so grateful. We had such a hard time reaching this state, ”she added, recalling the time the group had spent in the dark.

Minyoung said the latest album captured the band color audiences most wanted, expressing hope that people will receive positive energy while listening to their songs.

Launched in 2011, Brave Girls has seen all of its original members leave the group over the years. Current members joined the team in 2016.
