Best singers in the K-POP industry in 2021

Good singers aren’t hard to come by in the K-POP industry, but due to the talent saturation, finding the best singers is proving to be a difficult task. Many idols could defend themselves in vocal competitions against veterans of the music industry, given the rigorous training and hard work they put in to master the skill.

Here we have compiled a list of K-POP idols whose skills have been widely recognized in the industry and even praised by outsiders.

Disclaimer: This list is by no means final and is based solely on the opinions of the author. It is also unclassified and numbered for organizational purposes.

Best singers in the K-POP industry in 2021

1. Hwasa from Mamamoo

A list including some of K-POP’s best singers doesn’t seem complete without Hwasa, aka Ahn Hye-jin. The 25-year-old singer made her debut as a member of RBW’s 4-member girl group Mamamoo in 2014 and has remained strong ever since. She is notoriously known for her unique voice, which is often described as deep and hoarse.

Hwasa collaborated with pop star Dua Lipa on a remix of the latter’s song “Physical”. She has also performed on tracks with well-known Korean artists outside of the K-POP industry including Loco, Palo Alto, DPR Live, Uhm Jung Hwa and K.Will.

In 2020, she placed first on the South Korean singing competition show “Hidden Singer”.

2. EXO

Doh Kyung-soo’s DO garnered praise from across the industry for his vocal talent. Unsurprisingly, he won a singing competition in 2010 at the age of 17 – others prompted him to audition for SM Entertainment after his victory, and he eventually landed in EXO, of which he is still a member.

The singer is also well known for his acting, but many fail to recover from his soft and effortless voice. During his compulsory military service, he took part in a musical organized by the army itself.

The multi-talented K-POP idol has also performed an entire song in Spanish and will soon be releasing a Spanish song on his upcoming solo EP.

3. BLACKPINK Rosé

BLACKPINK fans and non-fans alike would recognize Rosé’s voice in the blink of an eye, as she has one of the most distinctive vocal colors in the business. At 15, she auditioned for YG Entertainment in 2012 and placed first among 700 other entrants.

She appeared on G-Dragon’s track “Without You” the same year. This led to many people following her activities and watching her even before she made her debut as a BLACKPINK member in 2016.

Most recently, the K-POP singer received a guitar from John Mayer after performing his song “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room”.

4. Girls Generation Taeyeon / SNSD

Taeyeon is considered one of the best singers in the Korean music industry. She was spotted in her current agency (SM Entertainment) after winning 1st place in a singing competition organized by them. She eventually joined the Girl’s Generation line-up and made her debut in 2007, as the frontman of girl group K-POP.

Taeyeon has released several solo albums, selling a combined total of over one million physical albums. She lent her voice to dramatic OSTs, and sang “Into the unknown“for the Korean release of the 3D animated film”Frozen. “

Park Jin-young, the founder of JYP Entertainment, previously said he wanted to work with the singer.

5. BtoB Eunkwang

Eunkwang or Seo Eun-kwang is a singer in Cube Entertainment’s K-POP boy group, BtoB. While the specialization in practical music was not sufficient proof of his vocal talent, the 30-year-old has also taken part in numerous musical plays, including Hamlet and Three Musketeers.

He has appeared on several variety musical shows including National Singing Competition, King of Mask Singer, Duet Song Festival, Immortal Songs 2 and others.

Eunkwang has received countless praise in the K-POP industry for his performances of So Chan-whee “Tears“, a song considered so difficult due to its high pitch changes that even skilled singers find it difficult to interpret it.
