San Francisco musician and Jewish educator Alison Faith Levy has released a new album of âretro-inspired pop songsâ for kids called âYou Are Magicâ. values ââthat are anchored in it. The title song addresses the idea of b’tzelem elohim, that we are all created âin the image of Godâ. Other notable tracks include “Turn Around”, which addresses the idea of Teshuvah, and âCanopy,â which encourages listeners to think about what it means to be alive.
âWe all have these big existential questions about the universe and our place in the universe, and it’s not that different for kids,â she told J. âA lot of songs have little things. about how we are all connected and how we are all part of something bigger.
A member of the pioneering “kiddie rock” group The Sippy Cups in the early 2000s, Levy decided to return to school after years of touring in order to gain a “more complete experience as a Jewish educator,” he said. she declared. She graduated with a Masters in Jewish Education from Hebrew College in June 2020.
In addition to making music, she directs the family education program at the Peninsula Temple Beth El in San Mateo and is a vocal soloist at the Or Shalom Jewish community in San Francisco.
