5 K-pop idols who will complete or will have completed their military service in 2021

Each year, many male K-pop idols enlist to complete their compulsory military service. It can take up to a minimum of 18-21 months. Some K-pop idols finish it earlier in their lives, and others choose to do so as they approach the maximum age of enlistment.

This article lists a few idols who have either been released from the military or will complete their compulsory service period in 2021.

Which K-pop idols have been fired or will be fired from the military in 2021?

1) EXO’s DO

After 19 months of hard work, EXO’s DO or Doh Kyung-soo was discharged from the military on January 25, 2021. He enlisted on July 1, 2019. While participating in military activities, he played in the military musical Back: The promise of the day.

After his return, he made his highly anticipated solo debut with the album. Empathy.

2) Sung-jong and Woo-hyun from Infinite

Sung-jong and Woo-hyun, of the six-member K-pop group Infinite, were both released this year. Sung-jong quietly enlisted and posted a letter to his Instagram account on July 29, 2019, revealing his decision. He was released on May 8, 2021, after a year and ten months.

Woo-hyun enlisted on October 24, 2019. Due to his shoulder injury, he served as a public servant and not as an active duty soldier. Coincidentally, Sung-jong was also placed as a civil servant. Woo-hyun was released after nineteen months and eleven days on August 4, 2021.

3) Sung-jae and Hyun-sik from BTOB

BTOB’s Sung-jae and Hyun-sik enlisted together, as did the Pentagon’s Jin-ho. K-pop idols enlisted on May 11, 2020. Sung-jae was demobilized on September 26, 2021. As he explained, he went on vacation on September 26 and was demobilized before he could return.

Hyun-sik was scheduled to be released on November 14, 2021. However, due to COVID-19, he was fired much earlier on September 28, 2021.

4) Jin-ho from the Pentagon

Jin-ho, or Jo Jin-ho, enlisted with the BTOB members on May 11, 2020. Just before enlisting, he released a self-composed single titled I am here. His official release date is November 14, 2021.

5) Seung-ri

The ex-Bigbang member enlisted on March 9, 2020. During his enlistment, Seungri was still involved in the trial for the “Burning Sun” scandal. As a result, her case was transferred to the military court where it continued.

The K-pop idol was originally scheduled to enlist on March 9, 2020, but has requested a postponement. He was due for release on September 16, 2021, but it was postponed due to the complexity of the trial. Until the issue was resolved, his military service was temporarily suspended.
